The creator Gregor Uhlmann has a special relationship with concrete – and has turned his passion of only 35 years into an entrepreneurship. As a trained cabinetmaker and director of an innovative construction company, he now perfected the processing of grey stone: the CO33 design series. A furniture series made of concrete, characterized by its gentle curves and simple perfection, very thinly molded and without heavy reinforcements. The idea came to Gregor Uhlmann during his time as a cabinetmaker: “One could say: I love wood, its properties and the countless processing possibilities. After all, that was the start of my craftsmanship career. Wood gives shapes individual character, it is flexible, malleable, and emits a lot of heat. So I was looking for a way to transfer these attributes to my entrepreneurial future, working with concrete, giving the material the feeling of lightness and giving new momentum to the familiar rigid forms … and developed CO33.” he explains.
Under this name, Gregor Uhlmann produces primarily concrete seating furniture and decorative items. His special formula: A mix that enables soft curves, clean lines and individual grain, without the loss of strength. CO33 furniture has the filigree of wood combined with the hardness and load bearing capacity of concrete. Therefore no heavy steel reinforcements are needed, only statistical expertise and functional design.
“This kind of production gives me many creative liberties in the composition of form, color and surface – for the owners of CO33 that means a completely new feeling of concrete in its most harmonious shape.” explains Gregor Uhlmann.

In his career as a craftsman, designer and entrepreneur, he quickly realized: concrete is more than just a building material, more than just grey-on-grey. “I was quickly impressed by the potential behind concrete once I discovered the many facets of the normally cool building material. Versatility and durability, longevity and sustainability, beauty and straightforwardness – just to name a few. I’m just fascinated by this kind of stone – this massive material that melts in our hands today and bears the highest building tomorrow. With CO33, I simply wanted to revive concrete and improve it.”

Whether indoors or outdoors – With its simple perfection, the urban design and the characteristic curves, the concrete furniture from the Design Series CO33 sticks out in any environment. Thinly poured and made with a special recipe, they have the delicacy of wood combined with the hardness and load-bearing capacity of stone. At the same time they need no steel reinforcements. CO33 has gone into production in 2014.
